Finding Peace in the Present Moment

Sometimes, life can feel overwhelmingly heavy. But when I’m able to step back and see things from a broader, more grounded perspective, I’m reminded of what truly matters—and just how lucky I really am.

Yes, I’ve had a hard life. There’s no denying the pain and struggle that’s shaped me. But even through all of it, I’ve been blessed with two incredible boys. They’re full of joy, energy, and light—and I get to be with them. That alone is a gift. My peace, happiness, and sense of purpose live in those moments with them.

And yet, despite all of that love and beauty, my mind still drifts to old wounds and current worries. That’s the power of trauma—it keeps us stuck in pain, even when joy is right in front of us. It convinces us we’re not safe enough to feel the good. Our nervous systems get locked into fight or flight, always bracing for what might go wrong, making it hard to simply be in what’s going right.

The key, I believe, is learning how to become free—free from the grip of past pain, free to fully receive the blessings of the present. But that freedom doesn’t come from pushing pain away. It comes from becoming aware of it. It comes from pausing, even just for a moment, to take a deep breath and gently remind ourselves: This moment matters.

This moment—right here, right now—is not promised in the next. The past is gone. The future is unknown. But this moment? It’s real. And it’s enough.

So if you can, take a breath. Let yourself arrive. Remind yourself of what’s most important to you. And try, even for a second, to savor what’s here.

Let’s show up for this moment—because it’s the only one we truly have.
